Growing up in the Highlands of Scotland has clearly influenced
my work. The large, unpopulated landscapes have made me very aware
of space and how powerful it can be both physically and emotionally.
What captivates me in the first instance is the power of these
impressive and seemingly unchanging spaces. But underlying that
is an awareness of the intricate and delicate balance between
the diverse elements that contribute to the overall structure
of that view. It is this relationship between the 'big picture'
and minute details that informs the development of my work.
My work is primarily an investigation of space. My sculptures
and installations are large and ambitious works that make use
of a variety of media. Their scale and content require the viewer
to enter into a relationship with the space that the pieces occupy,
both physically and psychologically. Although my print-work is
two-dimensional; in its scale and process, there is a similarly
keen appreciation of the use of space and its effect on the viewer.
